The perfect setting...

It's not difficult to see how the rugged charms of the Doone Valley inspired R.D.Blackmore to write his famous old novel "Lorna Doone". For centuries, visitors have been left spellbound by this gloriously unspoilt part of England, where old traditions and values remain alongside the natural beauty of its surroundings.
At its heart, you'll find the Stag Hunters Hotel.  Nestling on the banks of the River Lyn, this small, family run hotel offers its guests good old-fashioned Devon hospitality, fine food and a comfortable place to rest their heads.

The Stag Hunters is the perfect base from which to explore Devon's many fascinating and historical local attractions. Most can be reached easily by car, foot or horseback.

There is fishing on the banks of the River Lyn for salmon , trout and sea trout, while shooting, golf, riding and many other family pursuits are available locally.

On the 3rd Saturday evening of every month local folk musicians from across the West Country play impromptu sessions in the Stag Hunters Bar.  These evenings are always very popular with visitors and locals alike and a good time is always had by all.

Take a stroll beyond the hotel's 5 acres of paddock and you're free to enjoy the rich variety of flower and fauna, where buzzards and kestrels soar and hover overhead, while kingfishers dip below streams and brooks. The sight of Exmoor's famous wild animals the ponies and red deer roaming the open moorland is one not to be missed.
